Security Leaks or Stupidity.

It has been already 2 weeks ago the news that the Department of Defence had banned USB drives throughout the Pentagon was released. This somehow kept sticking in the back of my head. Especially since it appears to me it is not the use of USB drives that is to be blamed, but it is their administrators that are unable to setup a secure environment against virusses. Don't they keep up to date on software technology. It is their sole responsibility to keep the network and its data secure. The solution of keeping the virus on that USB outside the system would maybe have been as easy as using an Anti-virus checker on each and every computer. Any device that is being connected can be automatically scanned. And even when a virus enters the system, why did they have such a hard time to control it. The whole issue raises so much questions to me. Their solution: "workers come over here, we are confiscating your USB drives, and don't think you will get it back." It took the Pentagon some time to issue an official statement, wonder if they just didn't know what to tell. Usually all these statements make great use of writing techniques, changing the subject to something more convenient to them like in many cases: �Global risks and threats from China and Russia, hackers that are attacking their network of 17.000 computers, Pentagon computers are scanned for weaknesses millions of times each day by foreign computer users�. The US is under attack Pentagon officials admitted. Admitted? Suddenly the threat of being attacked seems to be very convenient to them. Wasn't the real subject here a virus got inside the system due to the use of USB drives? Could it not have been an ordinary virus hidden inside a Word document that was inserted into a computer without a virus scanner? Just raising a few questions here. I am looking forward to learning what kind of virus it was. They did not want to release that info. Due to security reasons...
